Vinca
VINCA, also known by its common name periwinkle, is a subshrub or herbaceous flowering plant with slender trailing stems that frequently take root where they touch the ground. Because Vinca spreads quickly, it is sometimes used as a groundcover; however, left untended, it can become invasive.
In some parts of the country, Vinca is used for erosion control and as a fire retardant ground cover. It grows well in shaded to semi-shaded areas without irrigation and will grow fine in direct sunlight if watered occasionally. It goes dormant in winter but returns up to 18 inches tall by summer. If you are looking for a fairly maintenance-free plant, Vinca is it!
