Squash & Pumpkins

Pumpkin
is a gourd-like squash of the genus Cucurbita and the family Cucurbitaceae (which also includes gourds). The main nutrients are lutein and both alpha and beta carotene, the latter of which generates vitamin A in the body. Pumpkins are a warm-weather crop and needs soil that holds water well.

Squashes generally refer to four species of Cucurbita, including hubbard, buttercup, cushaw, butternut, most pumpkins, acorn, summer squash and zucchini. In North America, squash is loosely grouped into summer squash or winter squash, depending on whether they are harvested as immature vegetables (summer squash) or mature vegetables (autumn squash or winter squash). Gourds are from the same family as squashes.
